Gardens Team: Autumn 2020 update

Posted by CDoyle on 03/12/2020

We start this autumn blog on a very sad note. One of our long term volunteers, John Brooksbank sadly passed away on 6th November.  John had been volunteering with us for 12 years working three days a week, he was very fond of the Park and loved the time he spent here. He made a huge contribution in the development of the gardens we have now.  He will be very sadly missed.

Luckily none of the staff were furloughed during this last lockdown, which meant we could continue bringing in all of the frost tender plants and providing frost protection to the tender plants that remain in the ground.  The greenhouse is now full of these (see photo) and also holds our trays of cuttings, which will provide part of next seasons display.

During this very difficult year our team did manage to catch up with all the gardening work, a special thanks to the husband of one of our team (A.J.) who volunteered some of his time over many weekends to help bring the weeding back in control.

This winter will be spent improving and renovating the gardens (weather permitting!!)

From all of the garden team we wish you a safe and a happy Christmas.

The Park is now closed for the winter. Please keep an eye on our website news section and via our social media sites for updates on the animals.
